About

Programming since 1970, originally on an HP2xxx and then Datapoint computers - the latter is the direct ancestor of the Intel 8008. Work at most times was business focused - accounting and line-of-business software, in things like medical, wholesale, oil and gas, and manufacturing.

Work over the last ten years has tended to be focused in 'reverse engineering'. Some of this is simply importing data from old databases into new ones and creating appropriate front-ends, other times it involves either hacking binary flat file structures and/or decompiling code. So far, 'decompiling' has been all .NET, which is trivial.

As much as possible, I work out of my house on a time and materials basis, generally taking on tasks that involve a lot of thought and trial and error analysis. I usually work three to four hours a day, taking the rest of the time for errands, professional development, or personal reflection.
