I would like to address one point I noticed in quite a few prior answers here: > * conceptual question on software development, why wouldn't I ask it on **Stack Overflow**... [1](https://softwareengineering.meta.stackexchange.com/a/5680/31260 "quote source") > * On **StackOverflow**, many questions that are not in the prohibited categories... [2](https://softwareengineering.meta.stackexchange.com/a/5699/31260 "quote source") > * there is considerable overlap between **Stack Overflow** and programmers... [3](https://softwareengineering.meta.stackexchange.com/a/5704/31260 "quote source") > * those questions are valuable and interesting..., and happily go on using **StackOverflow**... [4](https://softwareengineering.meta.stackexchange.com/a/5676/31260 "quote source") Yeah you guys brag so much about how easier it is to _pass through_ at Stack Overflow. What you probably don't consider is that [huge backlog in close votes queue](http://meta.stackexchange.com/q/151833/165773 "about 50K questions to close") makes (_currently_ makes) close voting at SO somewhat... _random_, compared to systematic effort you see at Programmers. * **I hate to be the one to tell you, but don't expect this to last forever...** > [![https://i.sstatic.net/Yxu4K.png][1]][2] I think it will be very interesting to see what happens in about [21 months from now](http://meta.stackexchange.com/a/163837/165773 "'we should have it cleared in just under 21 months'"), when mentioned backlog is expected to be cleared. * One can probably get an idea of how it would feel like by observing current effort to [Close all the typo questions](http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/167342/close-all-the-typo-questions "refer to MSO for more details on that"). Watching their "live backlog" makes a strong impression: dozens of questions getting closed and deleted daily with ease, and don't forget that only a small percentage of [about 10 thousands SO close-voters](http://meta.stackexchange.com/a/167915/165773 "estimate here") participate! --- When close votes backlog is finally cleared, expect close votes processing to get to the pace at which other SO reviews are dealt with (think about something like **10x faster than at Programmers**). What would you guys say when it will become only a matter of few minutes between first close vote / flag and question closure at Stack Overflow? If (when) that happens to your favorite "conceptual" questions at SO (as it happens already [1](http://meta.stackexchange.com/q/170394/165773 "recent example"), [2](http://meta.stackexchange.com/q/157216/165773 "another example") - just not that frequently), please don't forget to get back here and tell us again if it's that easy to pass at SO.
